  1. With this distribution of TheNet Plus version 2.12 are two self extracting
  2. files.  These are Network.exe and TN211.exe.  Network.exe contains related
  3. support and information for node network operation.  TN211.exe has the ROM
  4. images, docs and SETPLUS utility.  This version of SETPLUS will set version
  5. 2.08, 2.10, 2.11 and 2.12 rom images.

  7. Since they are self extracting all one has to do is type either "network" or
  8. "TN211" and they will unfold automatically into a series of related files.
  9. It is recommended these be upacked into a directory on a hard drive.  For
  10. those with a dual 360K drive capacity, each of the .exe files can be upacked
  11. onto a *separate* formated disk.  From drive A, the command would be either
  12. "TN211 B:", or "NETWORK B:", as appropriate.

  14. In this day and age, it's probably a good idea to run a virus scan on both
  15. files since there is always the possibility a malcontent may have tampered
  16. with the distribution.  Those receiving this program directly from either
  17. of the authors, or an established LL BBS should have little worry in this
  18. regard.

  20. We understand TheNet Plus version 2.09 is on many LL BBSes.  This version
  21. WAS NOT released for general distribution.  2.09 was a developmental version
  22. and at one time or other contained various features.  Some of which worked
  23. and some which did not.  Two different variations were released to DXPacket
  24. Cluster types for beta testing of certain features.  Apparently it is from
  25. one of these sources the "leak" occured.  As far as we know these versions
  26. performed OK, but the new version 2.11 has upgraded features and "better
  27. code".

  29. To summarize briefly, version 2.11 has several new features over those found
  30. in version 2.08:

  32.    1.  Automatic reconnect.  If one is "BYED" out of a distant connect, the
  33.        circuit will automatically be reconnected at the first 2.09, 2.10 or
  34.        2.11 node back from the "BYED" point.
  35.  
  36.    2.  Improved SYSOP parameter setting feature.
  37.  
  38.    3.  Transport layer parameters are now remote SYSOP settable.
  39.  
  40.    4.  A specialized version 2.11dx for DXCluster support.
  41.  
  42.    5.  A specialized version 2.11tm (telemetry) is available upon request.

  44.    6.  USERS display has been revised to show level 3 thrulink source and
  45.        destination nodes.  (Helps users and NodeOps alike to keep tabs on
  46.        system activity.)

  48.    7.  The diddle feature of 2.10 was removed.  It was reliable and required
  49.        setting TXD to an odd value.

  51.    8.  A completely revised and expanded documentation and support package.
  52.        The Network.exe support package includes a nice VHF/UHF/microwave
  53.        radio path analysis program as well as network design info.
  54.  
  55. Be advised the node DIGI function had to be removed from version 2.11 in order
  56. to make room for the new features.  This occured with the version 2.09
  57. developmental nodeware as well.  If one needs the digi function for their
  58. particular application, best to stay with version 2.08.
